The New and Improve YouTube. Do You Like It?

YouTube is on a roll. Last night, the world’s largest video site rolled out HTML5 support, its first video rentals, and even a nifty music feature called Disco. Today, it’s making an even bigger change: the site is launching a new ‘Watch’ page, stripping it down to its most key elements and ensuring that nothing is drawing your attention away from the video on the screen. To most people, this Watch page is really the heart of the YouTube experience — it’s where you view clips and browse for the next thing you want to watch, so any significant changes are a big deal. The new streamlined page is opt-in for now, and you can activate it here.

Many of the changes are aesthetic. You’ll find that YouTube has removed nearly all labels and extraneous text, resulting in a much cleaner feel (and one that feels more Googleish). The logo has even dropped the “Broadcast Yourself” tagline, though YouTube hasn’t committed to dropping Read Full Article

Boycott This! Filipino boxing fans will definitely watch Mayweather-Mosley on May 1

Filipino Sports Examiner

'Boycott This!' Filipino boxing fans will definitely watch Mayweather-Mosley on May 1

March 30, 3:19 PMFilipino Sports ExaminerDennis "dSource" Guillermo

Despite protests from hard-hugging Manny Pacquiao fans from all around the world, the fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Shane Mosley remains an intriguing match-up to several Filipino boxing fans and fight fans around the world in general.

Am I going to watch this fight? Hell yes!!! And I agree with our good friend from NYC Michael Marley that boycotting this event would be "stupid even for Pacquiao groupies". It really is.

Now, I can understand why many of you wouldn't want to shelf out your hard-earned coin to see Mayweather's "boring style" of boxing as some people coin it to be, but the significance of a bout like this is something that makes the fight a "can't miss".

People will have different reasons to want to see this fight.

You got those who have been waiting for this match-up for the past decade. Mayweather and Mosley after all were two of the most promising stars at the turn of the century.

You got those who want to see Mayweather lose and get beat the hell up in the process. Mayweather has effectively created an image for himself as the bad guy with his antics such as throwing money around and bragging how rich he is and how rich others aren't.

You got those that want to see Mosley define his brilliant career and turn it into a legendary one. Handing Mayweather his first loss will surely do that to him. As Mosley said in the fight's press conference in New York, May 1st will be "MAYweather's 1st loss".

Of course, you have the Mayweather fans that can't wait to see their boy do what he does best in the ring, which is winning. Whether you love him or hate him, you can't take away his undefeated record away from him until someone actually beats him.

Some will even watch it to simply see who Pacquiao might be fighting next.

Whatever your reasons may be, it also helps that there are options besides PPV if you want to watch this fight live.

If you don't feel like spending $50 on the Pay-per-view or flying to Vegas and catching it live, there are viewing parties and theater screenings like GBP did for Mayweather-Marquez all over the US for only a fraction of the PPV price or you can even see if for free if you check out my note below. And of course, you will always have the 'SOPcasts'.

Whether you think "Who R U Picking" should have been named "Who R U Kidding?", "Who R U Plucking?" or "Who R U PACQing next?", (I wonder why they asked a 6th grader to come up with this fight's title) Filipino boxing fans will definitely be watching.

Facebook Wants You to “Like” Brands

Facebook’s making a small wording change with some potentially big implications. Now, instead of clicking a button that says “become a fan” to start following a given brand, users will simply have to “like” them.

According to an email obtained by MediaMemo, Facebook is alerting advertisers to the impending change by explaining that “Like” links offer “a simple, consistent way for people to connect with the things they are interested in … in fact, people click “Like” almost two times more than they click “Become a Fan” everyday.”

The latter part is important – it means that the change could make it easier for brand advertisers to accumulate fans quickly. But it also means that users might not totally understand what they’re opting in to. After all, becoming a fan means that you ’ll start receiving updates from the brand in your News Feed.

Beyond that, it still doesn’t solve one of the main problems of Read Full Article

5 Tricks for Finding Guest Blogging Opportunities

Have you ever heard of guest blogging? Guest blogging is basically about writing great articles for a blog related to your website. At the end of the article, you have a paragraph or profile section which includes information about you as the writer, with a link or two back to your websites. In short, it's a technique of getting your name known as well as promoting your website.
If you want to read about guest blogging in more detail, Glen of ViperChill recently wrote a great article covering most aspects of guest blogging. In this article, I'll be giving you some tried and tested techniques for finding guest blogging opportunities.

1. Websites in your Blog's Comments
If you have a blog yourself, you've probably got the ability for visitors to comment on your articles. Many of these visitors have their own websites, and they are Read Full Article >>>

You Can Now Cast Your Votes on Facebook for American Idols

Idol Fanatic promises to do what FOX’s television enterprise American Idol never has: It lets fans vote for their favorite contestants via a Facebook application — at any time.

The application uses Ribbit — a web-based phone service à la Google Voice — to dial in user votes during American Idol’s allotted voting period. Each week users start with five votes and can earn more for each Facebook friend they invite.

In order to maintain the legitimacy of the voting process, Facebookers are required to provide a telephone number that is then used to create a Ribbit account. When the voting lines open, Idol Fanatic uses those Ribbit accounts to automatically dial in the votes submitted via the app.

Idol Fanatic also creates a shared experience around American Idol voting, as it allows users to see who their Facebook friends are voting for and to discuss the show’s Read Full Article >>>

iTunes App Store Now on Facebook

The iTunes App Store and its wealth of iPhone applications are now available for browsing, searching, and sharing thanks to a new Facebook page. iTunes on Facebook is busted up into three tabs: featured, games, and search & share. Each one provides links not only to launch iTunes proper, but also to share apps you like with friends on Facebook.

This is a nice start, but it seems to me like only a stepping stone to a more robust Facebook application – I’m thinking something that plugs into the iPhone Facebook app, identifies which apps you have installed, and syncs it up with a list on your profile, so friends can see which apps you’re currently using without requiring you to manually update the list. This kind of function has been wishful thinking on my part for just about any platform that has the cajones to actually pull it off. Yeah, it might just be us überdork elite who think anyone gives two licks about which mobile phone software we have installed, but I know I would check up on my techie friends more often if I Read Full Article >>>

Marketers make most of social media for NCAA promotions

There was a time when March Madness was just about basketball.

But with social media as a tool, some of the nation's savviest marketers are turning the college basketball's championship tournament into something more akin to an online hoops party for lovers of Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. People can tap on their laptops or mobile phones and play along with all kinds of games and contests and, yes, even watch the games.

The 64 teams picked Sunday will play for the title in the National Collegiate Athletic Association basketball tournament over the next few weeks. For marketers from Coca-Cola to Papa John's, it's a social-media marketing event, a chance to coax consumers to play with their brands.

"It's the ultimate sporting event for social media," says Jason Kint, general...read full article

Keeping a Closer Eye on Employees’ Social Networking

A service released earlier this week by Teneros, an online communication services company, makes it much easier for companies to keep tabs on their employees’ social networking activities.

The software, called Social Sentry, will automatically monitor Facebook and Twitter accounts for $2 to $8 for each employee, depending on the size of the company and the level of activity being monitored.

It has always been possible, of course, for employers to look at what their workers are posting on social media. It is an increasingly common activity for human resources departments vetting prospective employees. But there was a measure of privacy afforded by the sheer amount...read full article
