Even Before Friday, Retail Deals Will Go Online

Amanda Thomas Perry used to skip sleeping on Thanksgiving night so she could be at Lowe’s or Wal-Mart before dawn on Friday for the special “door-buster” deals.
But after too many so-called Black Fridays where she felt nauseated from lack of sleep — and one when her husband, overwhelmed by the discounts, arrived at the register with armfuls of digital photo frames they did not need — Ms. Perry will be starting her holiday sales shopping from the computer in her living room on Thanksgiving Day.
“You’re warmer, and you don’t have to deal with cranky people,” said Ms. Perry, a college student who lives in Murray, Ky.
A few years ago, Thanksgiving was not even considered a shopping day, as most stores are closed. But this year, retailers are driving customers to the Web with more specials than ever — door busters without the door — creating an online jump-start to the traditional Black Friday rush.
“It’s going to be a very competitive day,” said Kevin Mansell, chairman and chief executive of Kohl’s, the department store chain with more than 1,000 outlets READ FULL ARTICLE

America's Youngest Billionaires

Facebook catapults three 20-somethings onto the list, but the youngest isn't who you think it is.
The Facebook phenomenon strikes again, this time helping catapult two new 20-somethings into the ranks of America's richest for the first time and bringing down the average age of America's richest ever so slightly to 65.7. Only eight American billionaires are under the age of 40, and three of them co-founded Facebook.
The youngest? It isn't who you think it is. The world's youngest billionaire is now 26-year-old Dustin Moskovitz, who is eight days younger than his former Harvard roommate and Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg. The social-networking site's first chief technology officer, Moskovitz left in 2008 and started Asana, a software company that allows individuals and small companies to better collaborate. The company has attracted several of READ FULL ARTICLE

Review: A better Apple TV doesn't beat competition

Three years ago, the company put out a small box called the Apple TV that brought iTunes movies to the TV set, but it was too cumbersome and expensive to be a success. Now, there's a new, revamped and cheaper Apple TV, costing $99. It mainly represents Apple Inc. catching up to what competitors have been doing in the intervening years. However, with Apple being Apple, it also has some nifty features that set it apart.
So what is the Apple TV? Every time I write about it, I feel compelled to point out that despite the name, it's not a TV set. It's a black box that comes with a small remote. You connect it to your TV set either directly or through a receiver. It shows a computer-like interface READ FULL ARTICLE

Apple Readies Verizon iPhone
Apple Inc. is making a version of its iPhone that Verizon Wireless will sell early next year, according to people familiar with the matter, ending an exclusive deal with AT&T and sharpening the competition with Google Inc.-based phones.
While Apple is on track to sell 40 million iPhones across the globe this year, the touchscreen handset is facing pressure in the U.S. from phones running Google's Android software, which have been heavily promoted by Verizon Wireless, the biggest U.S. carrier by subscribers.
Apple plans to begin mass producing the new iPhone by the end of the year, and it would be released in the first quarter of 2011, these people said. The phone would resemble the iPhone 4 currently sold by AT&T, but would be based on an alternative wireless technology used by Verizon, these people said.

'Ping’ Enters Apple Into The Social Media Space

Ping will be built into iTunes and available on a computer, iPhone and iPod Touch. Much like Facebook and MySpace, you will be able to show and track the concerts you plan to attend, post songs to your or friend’s feeds, follow artists and the content they post, and write and comment on posts. Privacy features will allow you to be as private or public as desired.
According to Apple, ‘Ping is for social music discovery. It’s like Facebook and Twitter meet iTunes. It’s all about music.” The end benefit to Apple? Ideally, increased iTunes sales – the more you discover amidst your friends’ and READ FULL ARTICLE

A Look at Facebook Shopping Cart

Facebook pages can be quite a dynamic location for your brand and now there is a growing push towards monetizing pages from within Facebook. By utilizing shopping cart software built exclusively for Facebook, retailers can now sell products right on their Facebook pages – no need for users to ever exit Facebook.com.
These e-commerce platforms are still quite new, and users should be aware of the eventual fixes and potential upgrades that they will have to prepare for when implementing. However, for those with large fan presences, these e-commerce platforms can be READ FULL ARTICLE

Using social media for a job search

Job advertisements are posted on Twitter, many employers routinely use Facebook to vet their applicants and, with many of the people doing the hiring online themselves, potential employees are using social media to network their way into new positions.
One social networking site, LinkedIn, is almost designed for this purpose, giving professionals the opportunity to import their CV and network with others in their industry. You can even specify that you’d like to be contacted about ‘career opportunities.’
Better still is its recommendations function. This feature allows others to comment on your work and acts as an online reference. Employers take these really seriously, so READ FULL ARTICLE

Facebook and Amazon Partner for Web Shopping 3.0

Facebook and Amazon announced today a new partnership that integrates Facebook Connect into Amazon shopping. Facebook users will be able to purchase products for their friends on Amazon and the e-commerce site will be able to show product recommendations for Facebook friends for even easier holiday shopping — although Amazon emphasizes it will not contact Facebook friends or reveal account history.
The Amazon and Facebook partnership exemplifies how companies can leverage existing strengths to enhance products, services, and capabilities. In the case of Facebook and Amazon, Amazon is leveraging Facebook’s vast, half a billion user network and Facebook is utilizing Amazon’s powerful e-commerce capabilities.
Partnerships are a way to share risk, exchange ideas, build capital and READ FULL ARTICLE

iPhone 4 a hit, but 'death grip' drama goes on

Steve Jobs became the butt of countless jokes over the weekend after declaring that there's a right and wrong way to hold the iPhone 4. But that didn't stop throngs of eager customers from lining up to buy one.
Apple usually pipes up the Monday after the release of a big new product to crow about sales figures, and this time around the story was no different. More than 1.7 million iPhone 4 handsets were rung up between Thursday's launch day and the end of business Saturday, making for the "most successful product launch in Apple's history," said Steve Jobs in Apple's Monday morning press release. MIH to host Mayweather-Mosley Private Fight Party in LA
MIH to host Mayweather-Mosley Private Fight Party in LA

The Pacquiao-Clottey fight party drew almost 200 people that enjoyed the fight on a 40' x 12' screen. It was a great turnout. MIH also raffled away 2 Manny Pacquiao autographed boxing gloves and 5 Manny Pacquiao shirts. Food was also served together with a full bar followed by an afterparty with live performance by Warner Music artist MAIR. Not bad at all for $10 entrance, plus parts of proceeds went to the survivors of Typhoon Ondoy/Ketsana.

ABOUT MIH
MIH (Make it Happen Inc.) is one of the leading Social Media Companies today and is based out of Los Angeles California. MIH’s goal is to help all business small or large achieve greatness by taking advantage of obtaining maximum exposure through social media marketing.
Despite protests from hard-hugging Manny Pacquiao fans from all around the world, the fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Shane Mosley remains an intriguing match-up to several Filipino boxing fans and fight fans around the world in general.
Am I going to watch this fight? Hell yes!!! And I agree with our good friend from NYC Michael Marley that boycotting this event would be “stupid even for Pacquiao groupies“. It really is.

Obama Fights Goldman With Social Media

And he's winning. Corporate image managers--especially those at Goldman Sachs--have a lot to learn from the administration's Web savvy.

In 2008 candidate Barack Obama and his communications team rewrote the online playbook for presidential campaigns. In the two years since, Team Obama's affinity for social and digital media engagement hasn't waned a bit. In just the latest example of its new media savvy, the administration is taking its populist messaging about the need for financial reform to the digital space this week, highlighting Securities and Exchange Commission's charges against Goldman Sachs as evidence of "the consequences of what happens Read Full Article

Most Expensive Cell Phone

Stuart Hughes—who also designed the most expensive television—made headlines in 2009 when he crafted a 22-carat gold iPhone studded with 53 diamonds for an unnamed Australian businessman for £1.92 million. More recently, he says, he was commissioned to make an even pricier version of the phone in 18-carat rose gold with hundreds of diamonds, including a single-cut, 7.1-carat diamond for the main navigation button.
Price: $2.97 million*

Universities Ban iPads

The problem stems not from the iPad's popularity but from the way it connects to wireless networks. Princeton University in New Jersey has blocked 20 percent of the iPads on campus because of "malfunctions that can affect the entire school's computer system."
In a report, Princeton said the iPad causes DHCP client malfunctions, which basically means the tablet causes interference for other devices using the school's wireless network. In order to prevent that interference, Princeton Read Full Article

Google Launches People Finder to Help Victims of Quake in China

Although social media channels have been skint in terms of coverage of today’s 7.1 earthquake in China, Google has just launched a People Finder app in an attempt to aid victims of the disaster.
A massive earthquake hit northwest China’s Qinghai Province early this morning, killing more than 500 and injuring more than 10,000, according to the American Red Cross. Ninety percent of the houses in the region collapsed.
However, if you were to go to Twitter or YouTube now, you would find nary a citizen video or TwitPic of the event unfolding (we’ve contacted both YouTube and Twitter to be sure, but our own searches turned up nothing).
The reason behind this dearth of content is quite obvious: Google Read Full Article

1 Way Facebook Changed Dating
From Mashable
Dramatized in the above scene from the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory, it’s the most classic Facebook dating dilemma: Who pulls the trigger to make a relationship official on Facebook first? It would be embarrassing to declare yourself to be in a relationship if your (you thought) significant other doesn’t reciprocate.
Changing Facebook relationship status has, for better or worse, joined first date, first kiss, first night together, exclusivity talk, and first “I love you” on the list of important relationship milestones. It’s one of the most awkward milestones because it’s public by necessity.
That first status change isn’t the only challenge. When a relationship ends, how soon is it okay to switch back to single? Doing so right away seems callous, but holding on for too long makes you look fixated. And God forbid that somebody break the news to her partner that she’s dumping him or her by publicly switching her status over to “Single.” But we’ve all heard stories of that happening.
We’ve also heard stories of people seeing their dates switch to “In a Relationship” with someone else. That can’t feel good.
Your friends' posts on your profile could be costing you that dream opportunity.
1. Inappropriate Pictures
It may go without saying, but prospective employers or clients don't want to see pictures of you chugging a bottle of wine or dressed up for a night at the bar. Beyond the Read Full Article
